Nexus Analytica, EGAS, and Shell Egypt Announce Groundbreaking Greenhouse Gas Management Framework
Cairo, Egypt – In a significant leap forward for environmental stewardship and sustainable energy practices, a landmark event took place at the prestigious EGYPES conference. A collaborative effort between the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), Shell Egypt, and Nexus Analytica has culminated in the unveiling of the first edition of the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Management Guideline.
Contracted by Shell Egypt, Nexus Analytica developed this comprehensive guideline, which introduces a robust framework for effectively managing GHG emissions across EGAS and its affiliated companies. It represents a crucial step in the journey towards minimizing the carbon footprint of EGAS and its affiliates, in addition to enhancing sustainability within the energy sector.
The inception of this initiative traces back to the urgency for action recognized at COP27. EGAS and Shell Egypt embarked on this venture, underpinned by a formal agreement, leveraging Shell’s profound industry knowledge and Nexus Analytica’s consultancy prowess. The collaborative journey began with an intensive workshop focused on aligning goals and establishing a systematic approach to GHG emissions management.
A detailed gap assessment laid the groundwork for adopting industry best practices and methodologies, essential for accurate emissions measurement and management. A core aspect of the project was the development of precise data collection and verification processes, ensuring the reliability of emissions data and facilitating effective reduction strategies.
The collaborative effort further extended to a series of capacity-building workshops, aimed at deepening the understanding of GHG management principles and equipping the EGAS workforce with the skills necessary for impactful environmental stewardship.
The GHG Guidebook serves as a tangible manifestation of this collaboration, offering a practical, step-by-step roadmap towards achieving transparency and sustainability, in alignment with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the United Nations Global Compact standards.
This initiative has been made possible thanks to the visionary leadership and dedication of key EGAS stakeholders, including Dr. Ashraf Ramadan (Assist. Chairman for HSE), Dr. Rania Abou Neama (GM for Environment & Sustainability), Dr. Amira El Amir (AGM for Environment), and Dr. Sayed Ismail (AGM for Climate Change). Shell Egypt’s contribution led by Ms. Dalia El Gabry (Shell Egypt Vice President and Country Chair) and Dr. Yasser Hassan (Safety & Env. Manager), has been instrumental in providing the necessary expertise and support.
Special acknowledgment is extended to the Nexus Analytica Team, comprising Eng. Radwa Hashem, Eng. Amr Seleem, Dr. Amir Gerges, Dr. Nawal El Boghdady, and Dr. Wessam El-Baz, whose dedication and innovative insights have been pivotal to achieving this milestone.
The successful launch of the GHG Emissions Management Guideline marks a transformative step towards a cleaner and more sustainable future for the energy sector. It exemplifies a shared vision and commitment to addressing the challenges of climate change, setting a precedent for industry-wide transformation.
